“As it takes courage to gain power, so it takes deadly courage to retain power.”
Deadly courage to die means willing to die, but never willing to give up power.
Getting to power in every country is a difficult thing. In some countries, it is less difficult and in some countries it is more difficult.
To get political power by competing with the opposition party or by winning the complex conflict of one's own party.
And it takes more courage to go to power consistently.
Even risking life, power must be consistently maintained through deadly courage.
Because, without such assurances that the adversary will not come to power after the departure of power, the relinquishment of power is never safe.
If the power goes away, s/he will be killed by the opponent—in such a situation, s/he has to stay in power by deadly courage.
Syrian President Bashar Al-Assad remains in power only by deadly courage.
The deadly rebellion of President Assad's opponents inside Syria and again America's position against President Assad.
All these things together, the situation in Syria is absolutely dire.
But President Bashar Al-Assad is in power as Syria's president only by deadly courage.
Otherwise, he would have fled Syria long ago, fearing insufficient military power, rebel insurgency, and American hostility.
Fleeing because leaving power and staying in Syria would surely kill President Assad.
But in 1990, there was no such situation in Bangladesh (like the current Syria). There was a democratic movement.
Nevertheless, General Ershad was afraid of the movement and could not stay in power.
Just because of lack of courage, General Ershad had to abdicate at that time.
General Ershad took control of the situation in the country, after the martyrdom of General Zia.
However, in 1990 he left power in front of mass movement due to lack of deadly courage. And he went to prison.
Similarly, in 1996, Khaleda Zia passed the law and returned to power constitutionally. However, she could not dare to stay in power.
Yes, Mussolini_Suharto_Saddam_Gaddafi had to leave power.
But, as long as they remained in power, it was through deadly courage.

“ক্ষমতা অর্জন করার জন্য যেমন সাহসের দরকার_তেমনি ক্ষমতা ধরে রাখতেও মরণ সাহসের দরকার।”
মরণ সাহস মানে,মরতে রাজি_কিন্তু ক্ষমতা ছাড়তে কখনই রাজি না।
প্রতিটা দেশে ক্ষমতায় যাওয়া একটা কঠিন ব্যাপার।কোন দেশে কম কঠিন_আবার কোন দেশে বেশি কঠিন।
বিরোধী দলের সাথে প্রতিযোগিতা করে অথবা নিজ দলের জটিলতার দ্বন্দ্বে বিজয়ী হয়ে রাজনৈতিক ক্ষমতায় যেতে হয়।
এবং ধারাবাহিকভাবে ক্ষমতায় যেতে হলে বেশি সাহসের প্রয়োজন হয়।
এমনকি জীবনের ঝুঁকি নিয়ে হলেও মরণ সাহসের মাধ্যমে ধারাবাহিকভাবে ক্ষমতা ধরে রাখতে হয়।
কেননা,ক্ষমতা চলে যাওয়ার পর প্রতিপক্ষ ক্ষমতায় এসে ক্ষতি করবে না অথবা নিশ্চিহ্ন করে দেবে না_এরকম নিশ্চয়তা না থাকলে ক্ষমতা ত্যাগ কখনই নিরাপদ না।
আবার ক্ষমতা চলে গেলে প্রতিপক্ষের দ্বারা নিশ্চিত নিহত হতে হবে_এরকম পরিস্থিতিতে মরণ সাহসের মাধ্যমেই ক্ষমতায় থাকতে হয়।
সিরিয়ার প্রেসিডেন্ট বাশার আল আসাদ ক্ষমতায় টিকে আছেন শুধু মরণ সাহসের মাধ্যমেই।
সিরিয়ার ভেতরে প্রেসিডেন্ট আসাদের বিরোধীদের মারাত্মক বিদ্রোহ আবার প্রেসিডেন্ট আসাদের বিরুদ্ধে আমেরিকার অবস্থান।
এসকল কিছু মিলিয়ে সিরিয়ার অবস্থা একেবারেই মারাত্মক।
কিন্তু প্রেসিডেন্ট বাশার আল আসাদ সিরিয়ার প্রেসিডেন্ট হিসেবে ক্ষমতায় আছেন শুধু মরণ সাহসের মাধ্যমে।
তা না হলে,তিনি অপ্রতুল সামরিক শক্তি,বিদ্রোহীদের বিদ্রোহ আর আমেরিকার বৈরিতায় ভয় পেয়ে অনেক আগেই সিরিয়া থেকে পালাতেন।
পালাতেন এই কারণে যে, ক্ষমতা ছেড়ে সিরিয়াতে অবস্থান করলে প্রেসিডেন্ট আসাদকে নিশ্চিত হত্যা করা হবে।
অথচ ১৯৯০ সালে বাংলাদেশে ওই রকম (বর্তমান সিরিয়ার মতো) কোন অবস্থা ছিলো না।ছিলো গণতান্ত্রিক আন্দোলন।
কিন্তু আন্দোলনে ভীত হয়ে জেনারেল এরশাদ পারেন নি ক্ষমতায় টিকে থাকতে।
শুধু যথেষ্ট সাহস না থাকার কারণে, সেই সময় জেনারেল এরশাদকে ক্ষমতা ত্যাগ করতে হয়েছিলো।
জেনারেল জিয়া শহিদ হওয়ার পর জেনারেল এরশাদ দেশের পরিস্থিতি নিয়ন্ত্রণে নিয়েছিলেন।
কিন্তু ১৯৯০ সালে গণ আন্দোলনের সামনে ক্ষমতা ছেড়েছিলেন মরণ সাহস না থাকার কারণে। এবং কারাগারে গিয়েছিলেন।
তেমনি ১৯৯৬ সালে খালেদা জিয়া আইন পাশ করেছিলেন এবং সাংবিধানিকভাবেই আবার ক্ষমতায় গিয়েছিলেন।তা সত্ত্বেও সাহস করে ক্ষমতায় থাকতে পারেন নি।
হ্যাঁ,মুসোলিনি_সুহার্তো_সাদ্দাম_গাদ্দাফিকে ক্ষমতা ছাড়তে হয়েছিলো।
কিন্তু ওরা যতদিন ক্ষমতায় টিকে ছিলো,সেটা মরণ সাহসের মাধ্যমেই।
